3. Prohibition of alcohol, nicotine and drugs as well as fish and meat
Within each human being lie immeasurable, latent abilities: love, elation, bliss… One of the aims of spiritual development is to set these abilities and powers at one’s conscious, deliberate disposal without having to implement auxiliary means like drugs with their extremely harmful health effects.
As to the consumption of meat and fish, from a purely medical-scientific point of view, the relation between nutrients and toxic components in meat and fish is much less favourable than in vegetable and milk products.
Furthermore, the notion of not-killing, or the protection of sentient beings, is part of nearly all cultures’ ethics. In Komaja as well as many mystical and yogic schools, animals also have a soul – otherwise, why would they scream so piercingly before being slaughtered?
